INOVA automatically enrolls Visa cards into 3D Secure, this online payment method provides extra peace of mind for online shoppers. It is a password-protected authentication system designed to confirm the identity of the cardholder when a Visa card is used online in suspicious or different than usual circumstances. By requesting a one-time passcode be sent only to the cardholder, the credit union can verify that the genuine cardholder is entering their card details into an ecommerce website. The OTP code can be sent via SMS or email when the cardholder is about to make an online payment. It serves as a safe online payment method, helping to prevent fraudulent transactions and gives all parties in the payment process greater peace of mind, especially when used in conjunction with all the other security features offered by Visa. The 3D Secure protocol only protects card data during the online payment process.

What to do if 3D Secure authentication failure occurs
You may receive a 3D Secure failure message if the information is not entered correctly. For example, mistyping the one-time passcode, entering the wrong card expiration date, or forget their answer to their security question.
If the 3D Secure process is not authenticated, an individual can try it again and correct any errors. Be sure to look out for spelling typos, case sensitivity, and double-check credit card information. If the 3D Secure still fails to go through, they should contact INOVA Federal for additional support to complete the purchase.
